What we build
- Aluminum modular ramps that install quickly and can be adjusted or removed later.
- Wood and permanent ramps when a lasting, built-in look fits the home.
- Level landings at the door and at every turn, with room to open the door from a wheelchair.
- Handrails on both sides and edge protection so wheels can't slip off.
- Thresholds, short entry ramps and step-free entries for walkers and canes.
How we plan a ramp
- We measure the rise from the ground to the door, because that sets the length of the ramp. Building code generally calls for a gentle slope, which means a long ramp even for a few steps, so we look at the yard, driveway and side doors to find the best route.
- We follow your evaluation (from an OT or PT, if you have one) and the rules of the program paying for it, and we pull a permit when the town requires one.
- Nothing is built until you, or the program paying for it, approve the written quote.
Who pays for a ramp
Many families don't pay out of pocket. Ramps can be covered by NJ DDD through Acumen, NJ FamilyCare long-term care (MLTSS), New York Medicaid long-term care plans and waivers, and the VA HISA grant for eligible veterans. We also build for private-pay customers with a clear written quote first.
Questions people ask
How long does a ramp take to install?
Most home ramps take one to a few days once materials arrive. Program approvals and town permits usually take longer than the build, and we keep you updated at each step.
Do I need a permit for a wheelchair ramp?
It depends on the town and the size of the ramp. We check with your town and pull the permit when one is needed.
Can you build a ramp if I rent?
Yes, with the landlord's written permission. A modular aluminum ramp is often a good choice for renters because it can be removed later.
